Assalam o Alaikum. Shab-e-Juma Mubarak. Pray that this Juma brings all the blessings your way. A polite reminder to recite and understand whole or part of Al Kahf. Dajl is upon us and confusion galore. By the day, it is getting ever so difficult to differentiate right from wrong, truth from lies, information from disinformation and facts from propaganda. Amid this chaos, Al Quran is our only hope and Al Kahf only refuge. Let’s take stock of first story of Al Kahf from Ayah 1-26.
Many Surahs of Quran focus on stories of nations that rejected guidance. In Surah Al-Kahf, we find that Allah offers examples of various people who did follow guidance, and how it saved them from suffering the same fate as the disbelievers. This serves as yet another proof of the Quran being the true guidance, as mentioned in first 10 Ayahs of the Surah. Following the guidance of the Quran will lead to salvation, just as Divine guidance of the past led the people mentioned in this Surah to their salvation.
Allah swt begins this Surah by relating to us the story of Kahf Boys. We learn that they were young men who realized that if they wanted to follow Divine guidance, they would have to isolate themselves from the disbelieving people and their environment. Consequently, Allah swt used their lives as a sign for future believing generations, by giving them a miraculous life. Through this, He provided humanity with clear proof that He is the Creator and that the Resurrection is an undeniable reality.
It has been narrated that when one of the Youths of the Cave who were resurrected entered the city to buy food, he took out his silver coins, which were minted in the name of Trajan Decius. People coukd tell from his attire, language and currency that he belonged to almost three centuries old generation. People of the town followed him up the hill and the story unraveled upon them. Note that overtime the same story got distorted like so many other things in hitherto Ibrahimic religions. Hence, through this sign, Allah swt is also sending a message to the followers of previous Abrahamic faiths. That's why Allah swt reassures in Ayah No 13 that whatever is being told in Quran, is absolute truth. He swt demonstrates how His knowledge encompasses every matter, including the stories and knowledge that they themselves have forgotten, that they dispute about, or those they hide; such as this story of our Heroes, The Kahf Boys.
